Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: An elderly couple in Gwalior was brutally assaulted on June 17 by their tenant’s friend. The house occupant was asked to vacate the building a month ago. The accused in this case has been identified as Romil Mishra, son of a local Aaj Tak reporter Paresh Mishra.
Saurabh Khare, son of the assaulted couple who lives in Mumbai, revealed that his parents had seen Romil with their tenant multiple times.
He told NewsCentral24x7, “The reason that he attacked my parents is still very unclear. Only because the tenant was asked to leave seems such a frivolous reason to attack someone so brutally.”
The couple was reportedly beaten with a lock and the legs of a dining table. Sushma Khare, Saurabh’s mother, suffered a nasal bone fracture and was admitted at the ICU in Apollo Spectra Hospital, Gwalior. She got 21 stitches, while her husband, Prakash Khare also suffered minor injuries.
The accused is currently out on bail.
The Incident
On June 17, Romil visited Prakash Khare’s residence. Saurabh told NewsCentral24x7, “Romil comes to my parents who live on the first floor of our house and starts talking to my mother very calmy and even asks for water… When my mother turns towards the kitchen, he picks up a big lock lying there on the table and starts hitting my mother.”
“He then threw my mother on to the glass dining table, which broke,” Saurabh added.
Saurabh’s father, who was on the second floor, rushed downstairs when he heard the sound of glass cracking. “Romil then started attacking my father as well and hit them with dining table rods.”
In an attempt to escape, Saurabh’s parents ran towards the road outside their house. When the neighbours saw the couple soaked in blood, they immediately called the police.
Later, the police arrived at the scene and arrested Romil. The police also took the victims to a government hospital from where she was referred to Apollo Spectra Hospital, Gwalior.

Accusations
According to Saurabh, the police wasn’t acting fairly because the accused has strong political nexus.
He added, “When we saw one police official returning the accused’s clothes to his father, we realised the police is also not being fair. At that moment, I created a scene at the police station and stopped them from returning the accused’s clothes as they were evidence.”
Saurabh’s family then met Gwalior SP Navneet Bhasin. Bhasin instructed the police officials to charge the accused with correct sections of IPC, after which section 307 IPC (attempt to murder) was added to the chargesheet.

Police
Bhasin told NewsCentral24x7, “Romil was friends with the girl tenant who lived in Khare’s house. When the landowners pointed out some of her actions, Romil didn’t take it well. He went to Khare’s house and assaulted the senior citizens.”
“The accused was arrested on the same day and sent to jail,” the SP added. He was later released on bail. The accused was charged with IPC section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
