Shimla and the adjoining areas are reeling under an acute water shortage since 10 days. Tourists fled the hill station and hotels also cancelled bookings. The local residents started protesting on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, courts and many offices remained shut and shops and restaurants also kept their shutters down.
People queued up on the iconic Mall road with buckets waiting for their turn to get water from tankers, a Go News report showed. These scenes were never seen in Shimla. In one area, residents stored water from the crematorium too.
Many districts of Himachal Pradesh are facing water shortage due to a lack of rain and snowfall. The government is not able to cope with the crisis.
