Amid Opposition protests in the Rajya Sabha on Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in the Upper House, per which all clauses of Article 370 will not be applicable to Jammu and Kashmir. A Presidential Order removed provisions under Article 35A, which gives Jammu and Kashmir special treatment.
The presidential order on 370 states that everything in the Indian Constitution will apply to Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah’s announcement on Jammu and Kashmir was met with ruckus and uproar from the Opposition. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said: Entire valley is under curfew, political leaders including three former chief ministers are under house arrest. There is a war-like situation in the state, so this should be discussed on priority.

As per news reports, the state will be bifurcated. Ladakh will be a separate Union Territory and Jammu and Kashmir to be another. Shah proposed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill. Jammu and Kashmir will be Union Territory with a legislature, like Delhi. Ladakh will be a Union Territory without a legislature.

The revocation of Article 370 came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of Union Cabinet morning.
