Brigadier MPS Bajwa (retd), who commanded the brigade that captured Tiger Hill during the Kargil war, said on May 6 that surgical strikes have happened in the past as well, and slammed the current politicisation of the same.
He wrote, “Lot many controversial statements on Surgical Strikes. Sad that it’s been politicised. Such strikes at Sector levels were carried out earlier also,” adding that the only difference is that now it is “done at National level, with publicity & fanfare but with no visible results.”

Earlier this week, after the Congress party released the list of six such strikes carried out under the UP government, PM Modi ridiculed the operations as “video games“. The remark invited much condemnation from veterans who pointed out that the strikes had been undertaken in the past also.
This includes Lieutenant General (Retd.) DS Hooda, the retired chief of the Northern Command who supervised the 2016 surgical strike. He said on May 4 that surgical strikes were not a new thing, ANI had reported.
