In Vision Document, Digvijay Singh Promises Science City in Bhopal

Veteran Congress leader and the party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh has released a vision document for the constituency, promising IT Special Economic Zones, a medical college, hostels for working women and female students as well as a Science City among other things.

“In addition to universities, there is a pressing need for research institutions,” the document says, adding that in the Science City, provisions will be made for “state-of-the-art medical research and genome research.”

The document promises to facilitate immunology research for the long term treatment of the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Medical facilities to the victims would be improved and they would be provided free treatment at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre. A post-graduate course at the BMHRC has also been proposed.

Developing Bhopal as the ‘medical capital’ of central India has also been focussed on by suggesting the setting up of super-specialty hospitals as well has free health clinics in every ward.

The former M.P. Chief Minister has also promised that a biotechnology park would be set up in the Science City.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Malegaon Blast Accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur from Bhopal. Elections in the city will be held in the sixth phase, i.e., May 12.
