Faulty EVMs in Kerala that only recorded votes for the BJP, continued to mar the 2019 Lok Sabha election as it entered the third phase on Tuesday, 23 April.
Asianet News reported that an EVM at a polling booth in Kovalam, Trivandrum lit up for the lotus symbol, even after pressing the button for the ‘hand’ which is Congress’ symbol.
The malfunction was reportedly detected after 70 votes were already cast. The machine was eventually replaced.

In a separate incident, Manoroma Online reported that another faulty EVM at a Kizhakke Nalpathu polling booth in Alappuzha, Kerala was registering votes only for the BJP. After voters complained, the said EVM was reportedly replaced.
In the previous phases of the polls, similar EVM malfunctioning was reported in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh as well as in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir.
