Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday wrote on Twitter that slain Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare should be treated with respect.
Gandhi’s remark follows Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s statement about Karkare. The BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal had said that Karkare was an ‘anti-national’ and that her curse had brought about his death.
Hemant Karkare gave his life protecting India. He must be treated with respect.

Karkare, who was killed in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, had investigated the 2008 Malegaon Blast case in which Thakur had been implicated and arrested. She is currently out on bail.
Thakur’s remark was condemned by several retired IPS officers as well as the Central IPS association.
Former Director General of the Border Security Force, ML Kumawat, told NewsCentral24x7, “Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s reprehensible statement against a brave and conscientious police officer who took bullets of Pakistani terrorists to defend India during the 26/11 Mumbai attack for which he was awarded the highest peacetime military decoration— Ashok Chakra is insult not only to Hemant Kankare but all martyrs who die for the nation.”
