The sugarcane farmers on Wednesday, March 19 burnt their produce and raised slogans against the Yogi Adityanath government in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.
Hundreds of farmers and Bharatiya Kisan Union workers assembled at Malka Park and then marched towards Kala Aam Chauraha (junction) to protest against the delay in payment of dues by factory owners and rampant damage caused by stray cattle a day before Holi festival, Patrika said in a report.
The agitating farmers underlined that the government has turned a blind eye to their plight. Mange Ram Tyagi, president of Meerut Mandal told Patrika, “The farmers across the country are facing a crisis. Everyone should vote during the Lok Sabha polls. But, should elect a person who works for farmers and not someone who divides people on the basis of religion and caste.” He said he will wear black clothes on Holi as many farmers have lost their sons in the Pulwama terror attack. “Holi is a festival, but look how the farmers are celebrating by burning their own produce,” Tyagi added.
The nomination process for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has already started as voting will take place in Bulandshahar during the second phase on April 18.
