Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), slammed the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and especially Union Minister Arun Jaitley for the “twin misuse of CBI”.

Speaking to media persons on January 27, Yechury said, “The CBI has been used by the BJP to take forward its political aspirations. There are two facets to this. First, to protect themselves, like Amit Shah’s son and Ajit Doval’s son. They also use it as leverage on other parties.”
He added, “The second facet is regarding the economic offenders in the country. It is for the protection of those people who loot and embezzle with the public’s money. This is very clear from the ICICI case.”
“It is clear,” said Yechury, “that for doing their job, CBI officers are transferred — for going after corrupt cronies. The government wants to shield cronies.”
“Maintaining law and order in the country is impossible, as long as the BJP is in power,” Yechury added, slamming the Modi government.
