After a high-powered select committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed Alok Verma from the Central Bureau of Investigation, activist and lawyer Prashant Bhushan called out Modi government on Thursday, January 10 saying Verma’s ouster showed their “desperation” to prevent any investigation in Rafale deal.
Slamming Modi, Bhushan tweeted: “So, a day after he resumed charge as CBI Director, the Committee headed by Modi again transfers out Alok Verma post haste, w/o even hearing him, fearing the prospect of his registering an FIR against Modi in the Rafale scam! Such desperation to prevent any investigation.”
Bhushan’s allegations of Modi removing Verma fearing a Rafale investigation has been an insinuation of the Opposition as well. On January 10, a high-powered select committee headed by Prime Minister Modi — that also comprised of Justice AK Sikri and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge — announced the decision to sack Verma from the investigative agency and appoint him as Director General (DG) of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards.
