The newly-elected Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel reportedly said in the state assembly on Tuesday, January 8 that his government has only started to “remove the dust” from the files of the Civil Supply scam but “hue and cry” can already be heard.

Taking a dig at the Opposition, Baghel said that the Congress government has only been in power for 20 days and has already fulfilled 9-10 promises made in its manifesto for the assembly elections. “Be patient, we will fulfil the remaining promises as well,” he added, reported Haribhoomi.

Baghel government set up a 12-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged multi-crore scam in the state’s Civil Supply Corporation.

The alleged scam was exposed in February 2015 when ACB and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) conducted simultaneous raids at 25 premises of the Civil Supplies Corporation and its officials.

Later, the ACB made 18 people, including two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, Anil Tuteja and Alok Shukla, accused in the case.

The Congress had earlier alleged that then-Chief Minister Raman Singh, his wife and other high profile people were named as beneficiaries in the diary which was recovered during the raid, a charge refuted continually by the BJP leadership.

Baghel also jibed at Raman Singh, saying that the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) CM was able to handle “neither cows nor governance” during his tenure.
