Violent protests broke out in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on December 3, over an “illegal cow slaughter”.
Reportedly, people allegedly spotted cow carcasses in the area after which they blocked a road demanding action against ‘illegal cow slaughter’. However, the police is yet to confirm if the carcasses were of cows or any other animals.

Police tried to placate the mob but things turned violent and the protestors started pelting stones at the cops who, according to reports, opened fire in self-defence.
During the violence, vehicles were vandalised and set on fire by the mob. Additional forces have been called in to maintain peace in the area.
As per reports, UP Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh died after he was allegedly “injured by a blunt object” during the violence.

However, other reports have stated that Kumar was shot. A video that is going viral on social media shows Singh allegedly lying dead in a car stranded in the middle of a field.
According to a new report in DNA, inspector Singh was the investigation officer in the Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case — an angry mob murdered Akhlaq in 2015 based on rumours than his family consumed and stored cow meat in their home — and was “instrumental in getting the meat samples to the lab on time.” The report also added that Singh was transferred to Varanasi in the middle of the investigation.
Speaking to the media, Uttar Pradesh ADG (law and order) Anand Kumar said that the police had received complaint of animal remains in sugarcane fields. “Those behind this will be identified. Arrests will be made soon,” he said, adding that the situation in Bulandshahr was under control.
