On Friday, November 16, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) West Bengal state president Dilip Ghosh issued an inflammatory statement while addressing a rally in Ukhra, in Durgapur.
Ghosh threatened violence saying, “When the BJP hits someone, they don’t go to hospital, but to the crematorium (shamshan). When we hit here, the dead body will fall here and there.”
Amrita Bazar Patrika (ABP) reported that Ghosh’s statements after Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Jitendra Tiwari’s assertion that “the next time they do such a public rally in Paschim Bardhaman District, they will be straight sent to the hospital for at least six months,” after Ghosh had held a rally in Paschim Bardhaman district in Durgapur some days ago without prior permission. This particular rally saw violence erupt between the BJP workers and the civic volunteers.
Ghosh also referred TMC leaders as “dogs”, adding that dogs who bark don’t bite.
