Haryana Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary Surender Singh, along with several other party leaders, was arrested on Thursday, while protesting against the privatisation of Haryana Roadways.

On October 30, multiple demonstrations across the state saw involvement of over 2 lakh protesters. Speaking with Newsclick, Inderjit Singh, former state secretary, CPI(M) Haryana, said, “This is the largest ever solidarity by workers of all categories against privatisation.”
The strike began on October 16 and has entered its 16th-day today. Several workers of all categories of various sectors, including Anganwadi workers and helpers, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers, rural cleaning personnel, janitor, forest workers, contract workers, construction workers, researchers, teachers and labourers have been staging protests against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s decision to privatise roadways.
Singh added, “The government from time to time has shamelessly tried to privatise the prestigious Haryana Roadways which has won many national awards. The Khattar Government in it’s four years in Haryana has not purchased a single bus because they want to benefit some private companies.
