Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the centre for the economic slowdown in the country.
He took to twitter and said that the Narendra Modi-led government is “incapable of handling its own appointees, institutions and crucial matters.” He said that these years of the BJP’s rule “will go down as among the darkest in our history.”

Yechury also referred to the recent report that the Modi government has sent Rs. 5,000 cr on advertising alone.
As even routine governance falters and slips – the Economy slumps further. This govt is incapable of handling its own appointees, institutions and crucial matters. These years will go down as among the darkest in our history. Spend ₹5000 crore on own publicity and leave a mess.

Yechury’s remarks come at a time when the country’s economy is facing several dangers such as the current NPA crisis, agricultural losses, unemployment and slowing down of economic growth.
Modi government’s role in undermining the independence of institutions such as the RBI and the CBI is being widely questioned. On Monday, RBI deputy governor Viral Acharya had publicly rebuked the Centre, saying, “Governments that do not respect central bank’s independence will sooner or later incur the wrath of financial markets, ignite economic fire and come to rue the day they undermined an important regulatory institution.”
