UPDATE: Two Farmers Injured, One Rushed To Hospital

Two protesting farmers marching towards Delhi from Haridwar were reportedly injured on Tuesday.

Seventy-two-year-old farmer, Radhe Singh, was one of the injured, reported News 18.

Another farmer was rushed to a nearby hospital after a tear gas shell fired by the police reportedly burst near his mouth.

Thousands of farmers marching from Haridwar are being stopped from entering the national capital on Tuesday as the Delhi Police imposed prohibitory orders in east and northeast part of the city.

“Why have we been stopped here (at UP-Delhi border)? The rally was proceeding in a disciplined manner. If we don’t tell our government about our problems then whom do we tell? Do we go to Pakistan or Bangladesh?” Naresh Tikait, Bharatiya Kisan Union president, told ANI.

The farmers are marching under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union, as part of the ‘Kisan Kranti Padyatra’. Reportedly, the police is using water cannons and teargas against the peaceful protestors.

Journalist Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay noted that the media isn’t reporting the protests. “Surprised at so little coverage. Just spent 45 minutes trying to enter Delhi in vain. Farmers wearing green caps walking in endless lines completely peacefully. Hundreds of tractors, buses and small trucks choking all roads leading to the capital. Farmers angry with government,” Mukhopadhyay said in a tweet
