Dr. Dinesh Gupta, a senior professor at Govt. Rajiv Gandhi PG College in Mandsaur, has gone on leave after he was made to apologize by ABVP members who called him ‘anti-national’.

In a video that went viral on Thursday, shows Dr. Gupta apologizing to ABVP members by touching their feet. On Wednesday, Dr. Gupta was teaching at the college when ABVP members were shouting slogans, while on their way to submit a memorandum to the principal, reported the Indian Express.

Dr. Gupta asked them to not shout the slogans, as it was disturbing his class. This enraged ABVP members, who were chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram.’ They called Dr. Gupta ‘anti-national’, demanded an apology from Dr. Gupta and threatened to file a police complaint.

Dr. R K Sohoni, principal of the college, said that Dr. Gupta was not at fault and that the incident made him feel humiliated, which caused him to go on leave for a few days.

A different video shows Dr. Gupta say that he is more patriotic than the ABVP activists and “will chant patriotic slogans not once but thousand times, but not at their instance.’’
