The Pew Research Centre’s report on economic mood in countries reveals a substantial drop in economic confidence among Indians.

In 2017, 83% Indians thought that ‘the economic situation in their country is good’. However, this saw a massive 27 percentage points decline in 2018, when only 56% have confidence in the economic situation in their country. This drop is higher than observed in any other advanced or emerging economy.

The report, published on Tuesday, is based on findings from the Spring 2018 Global Attitudes Survey, a public opinion poll. It also assesses economic confidence on the basis of political leanings.

Those who support the ruling party in their country, are more likely to say that the economic situation in their country is good, as opposed to those who do not support the ruling party. This trend is visible in 20 out of 27 countries surveyed, including the US, Russia, France, Canada and India.
