On Thursday Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, or KCR, decided to dissolve the state assembly and call for early elections. The pre-poll alliance will be a major blow for both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
In the 2014 assembly elections, the Congress won 21 seats in the newly formed state. While the TRS had won 63 seats in 2014, now it has over 90 MLAs due to defections. The TDP had won 15 seats during the last elections.
