Police Raid EFLU Prof K Satyanarayana’s Residence, Bar Family Members From Stepping Out

Maharashtra Police raided the residence of K Satyanarayana, Head of the Department, Cultural Studies, EFLU (English And Foreign Languages University) in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Satyanarayana is an anti-caste activist.

According to a statement released by rights activists, the police entered Satyanarayana’s residence without any prior intimation and his family have been confined to their residence from 10 am and not allowed to come out and talk to anybody. Moreover, media has not been allowed inside the campus either.

“There is no communication as yet on what grounds the raid has been conducted,” the statement mentioned.

Social activists and opinion makers across the country have condemned the arrests as an “unjust and arbitrary action from the part of Maharashtra Police.” 

Several human rights activists, lawyers and intellectuals were detained and arrested across the country by Pune Police on Tuesday. Sudha Bharadwaj, Vernon Gonsalves, Arun Ferreira, Varavar Rao, Gautam Navlakha, Kranti Teluka and Naseem are among those who have been arrested.
