The family members of Yunus Khan, who was a key witness in the murder case of Unnao rape survivor’s father, allegedly tried to kill themselves outside Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s house in Lucknow, after they were denied a meeting with him on Sunday.
The police detained all of the family members, reported ANI.
Senior police official Vijay Pandey said, “The family of Yunus had come to Lucknow and was adamant about meeting the Chief Minister and getting inside his residence. They have been taken to the Hazratganj Police Station so that their grievances can be heard and the district concerned be informed about it.”
Yunus died on August 18 and his body was buried without informing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It was exhumed for conducting a post-mortem on August 25. The cause of his death is still unknown.
Yunus was a crucial witness in the death of the father of 17-year-old Unnao rape survivor. The survivor and her mother had attempted suicide in front of CM Adityanath’s house, alleging that the father was arrested and killed in custody after they filed a complaint accusing BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of rape. The father died in police custody, allegedly after being assaulted by the accused’s brother, Ajit Singh Senger, who has been named in the CBI charge sheet filed in the case.
