On Tuesday, a 70-year-old man died when a bathroom wall of the second class waiting room at the Patna Junction Railway Station collapsed on him, reported ANI.
Other reports suggest that some few others were injured as well. According to railway authorities, the bathroom was undergoing renovation work.
The deceased, Veer Bahadur Singh was a resident of Vaishali district.
In his budget speech this year, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announce that 60 railway stations, including Patna junction would receive ‘world class facilities’ to look like airports.
On Sunday, BJP chief Amit Shah inaugurated the new Deen Dayal Upadhyaya railway station, which was previously known as Mughalsarai junction. The event was also attended by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar is not amused by the renaming. He said that renaming the station will not bring development and that the government’s focus should be on improving the management of railways.
ANI quoted Rajbhar as saying, “By changing Mughalsarai station’s name to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, trains won’t start coming on time, they should rectify the mismanagement in railways. Changing of names won’t lead to development.”
