Incidents of lynching will not stop till the time cow gets the status of “Rashtra Mata”, a BJP MLA from Telangana has said, amid the outrage over the killing of a Muslim man over suspicion of being a cow smuggler in Rajasthan’s Alwar. T Raja Singh Lodh, the BJP MLA from Goshamahal here, said in a video message on a social networking website on Sunday he does not want “khoon-kharaba” (bloodletting) on the issue, but if it has to stop, cow must be declared the Mother of the Nation. A 16-year-old girl died today after she was allegedly set ablaze by her jilted lover at Chaukhandi village under Safdarganj police station limits in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said. The girl was at a neighbour’s house when the accused, identified as Amit (24), dragged her out, poured kerosene and set her on fire, they said. ‘Khelo India’ were made to serve tea and snacks to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders in BJP Ranchi office on Monday, reported Newsd. They have been selected from all over Jharkhand, to play at a national level competition in Delhi. In a video shared by Newsd, players can be seen serving snacks during a meeting. According to a BBC Hindi report, the players gave conflicting accounts of the incident. A member of the women’s kabaddi team said that some students served tea to their teachers voluntarily, while a member of the men’s kabaddi team reportedly said that they served tea and biscuits only to their own team members. In Tikamgarh’s Jagat Nagar on Monday, the relatives of a deceased class 12 student had to carry the boy’s body in a handcart to the hospital. The relatives told ANI that even though they had requested an ambulance, none came to transport the body. The class 12 student died after a wall collapsed on him while he was on his way to school. Kumar was here to attend a programme of the Hindu Jagaran Manch yesterday. “If the practice of eating cow meat is stopped, many such crimes of the ‘Satan’ could be stopped,” he said.
