On Saturday, a woman who was raped at gunpoint five months ago, reached Hasanpur Kotwali’s police station in Amroha district with her aborted foetus in a bag, to lodge a complaint.
According to an HT report, the victim is 19 years old. According to The Indian Express, she is an 18-year-old Dalit woman.
The victim filed a first information report (FIR) against Manoj, a 20-year old man who allegedly raped her and then forced her to abort her baby.
Ajay Kumar, circle officer of Hasanpur told Hindustan Times, “We have registered a case on complaint of girl’s family and raids were being conducted to arrest the accused.”
The accused, 22 year old Manoj, is still at large.
According to HT, the woman was raped five months ago and was threatened with serious consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
The victim’s situation worsened when she got pregnant. “She said that on July 13, when Manoj learnt of her pregnancy, he reached her home when she was alone and forced her to take contraceptive pills.” The SHO told the Indian Express.
The parents came to know about the entire incident on July 20, when she complained of severe stomach pains and subsequently gave birth to a stillborn.
They took the daughter to the police station on July 21.
