Coming down hard on the Narendra Modi-government after Finance Minister Piyush Goyal announced a Rs 6,000 a year income benefit for farmers who own less than 2 hectares of land, farmers rights activist Yogendra Yadav said that the move translates to Rs 3.3 a day for a family of five people.
“#Budget2019 actually rubs salt in the wounds of farmers,” he wrote on Twitter, adding that the amount is lower than even MNREGA old-age pension.

Referring to the Modi government’s promise of doubling farmers’ income, the Swaraj India national president further asked how far had the government come in fulfilling the promise.
Taking a dig at the prime minister’s radio show, he said, “This (Rs 3.3) is not enough to buy even a cup of tea to do chai par charcha.”
